A Little More About Us: Who We Are and How It Works

We (Beth - she/her & Georgia - she/her) were in our twenties, having an incredible time backpacking through India, however kept experiencing uncomfortable situations from other travellers.

Personal questions, weird comments, and inappropriate jokes about our relationship & sexuality.

It made us miss having queer friends like we do at home, so we started LGBTQ+ Backpackers, a way to meet other queer people whilst travelling. For the first 2 years 'LGBTQ+ Backpackers' was a simple Facebook community with destination-specific WhatsApp chats. We met tonnes of people through these chats, and still do!

Then as the group grew, one thing kept coming up again and again: people wanted to travel, but they didn't have anyone to go with. That's where our queer group trips came from.

How the trips work

To make the queer group trips a reality, we worked with experienced travel operators who run the trips themselves. They handle all the logistics and delivery, while we focus on bringing the LGBTQ+ community together. For all of our trips - booking, payment and travel arrangements are all handled directly by the operator. Your booking is made directly with them.

We don't currently collect reviews ourselves - this is because the trips are operated by our partners, so reviews are left directly on their own review pages. You can check out a few reviews which were left about our trips on their pages, here.

We’ve also written a blog about two travellers who came on our Thailand trip and ended up having such an incredible time they booked onto our Philippines trip just a few months later.

LGBTQ+ Backpackers is now a registered UK company, with the two of us running everything behind the scenes - manually approving every new Facebook group members and posts, replying to messages, posting on social media, and working closely with our partners to shape the group trips into something incredible.

So, that’s it in a nutshell. LGBTQ+ Backpackers is a community built by queer travellers, for queer travellers, with group chats and group trips, so queer travellers never have to travel without community again!
